In many island cultures, sand dollars are considered to be mystical creatures resembling a living Mandala. Each delicate sand dollar carries its own distinctive pattern resembling little leaves with branching veins all connecting to a center point. And, according to legend when sand dollars break open, five white doves are released to spread goodwill and peace across the universe.
